Team Keane Brings Rowing and Paddlesports to Brentford Thames Side

Team Keane Brings Rowing and Paddlesports to Brentford Thames Side

14 Mar 2021

We are extremely excited to announce the beginning of a new chapter for Team Keane.

After nine successful years at the University of London Boathouse Team Keane will now be leaving to start operating from its very own site in Brentford. From the famous landmark site of the historical Brentford Ferry Whaf which once connected Brentford to the Kew Palace via Ferry, Team Keane will once again be launching boats from this historic site but now as part of a Community Boating Club servicing local schools and the wider community bringing accessibility to the water for the residents of Hounslow.

Many will recognise the site from the striking silver statue designed by artist Simon Packard visible from the Thames and Kew Gardens oposite where the Brentford Monument once stood. This is a wonderful location for our club, cosily nestled amongst the Ferry Quays and an exciting addition to the development of Brentford as a whole which is undergoing dramatic transformations.

Brentford has always had a very close relationship with the water. Located at the junction of the River Thames and the River Brent which later becomes the Grand Union Canal stretching an incredible 137 miles all the way to Birmingham, the waterways are woven through its history, industry and culture going all the way back to the Roman times!  In fact its very successful Brentford Football Club initially started life as a Rowing Club!

Team Keane is extremely proud to bring Rowing back to Brentford and are looking forward to becoming part of such an exciting community!
