Team Keane Community Come Together to Save Our Club

Team Keane Community Come Together to Save Our Club

14 Mar 2021

Team Keane has progressively grown bigger and bigger over the few years it has been in existence. This growth can mainly be attributed to its huge success bringing a sport that has historically only been accessible to the elite few and making it more accessible to the wider community and schools.

In 2013 Paul Keane started the club aspiring to create a truly open rowing club which would give every person the chance to learn the sport of rowing and enjoy the sport either recreationally or competitively. It has not been an easy task working within a community that has had its doors closed to the general public for so long, but perseverance has triumphed, and the club has since become a success to be proud off! It can now boast to have one of the largest junior rowing communities in the UK as well as take credit for enabling countless adults to take up the sport. However, Team Keane has only just scratched the surface of what this sport is capable of doing for our community given the right support and determination.

Team Keane has been supported by many organisations along the way operating out of existing boathouses including Thames Tradesman and more recently, the University of London, but finally it has outgrown them all and is now ready to take its first steps as an independent operator at Ferry Wharf in Brentford.

Brought on by the catastrophic Covid-19 restrictions and University of London Boathouse's decision to no longer provide facilities for community youth & adult rowing in order to re-focus on their University & High Performance Rowing activities, Team Keane has worked quickly to establish a new site just 1.5 miles away in Brentford.

This has required a huge level of tenacity and determination.  In fact, the whole Team Keane community came together to help clear the land in a matter of only weeks to make way for our racks and boats. This move opens exciting future possiblities for Team Keane. We will be the only rowing club in this section of the river, with the possibility of a future boathouse to ourselves.

We are all very excited to kick activities off from the 31st March 2021.  This change marks a key milestone for Team Keane that we will look forward to properly celebrating with the entire community as soon as we are safely able to do so.  In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you all back to the water at our new home in Ferry Wharf, Brentford.  Be sure to watch this space for all our exciting developments!
